Four more countries — Netherlands, Belgium, Canada, and New Zealand eased the travel advisories imposed against Sri Lanka, extending a much-needed boost to the triple-hit tourism industry.

Considering the latest developments, the respective governments have recommended its citizens maintain a high level of vigilance when travelling in Sri Lanka and avoid any gatherings at all times, cautioning and social tensions remain uncertain.

They also cautioned on possible short supplies of fuel and medicines whilst insisting its citizens follow the instructions of local authorities.

In addition, tourists from these countries are highly recommended to find out through the media, tour operators, and or a contact person on site about the current situation and possible curfews before and during their trip.

A total of 11 countries have relaxed travel advisories against Sri Lanka. They include; the UK, Switzerland, France, Australia, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Netherland, Canada, Belgium, and New Zealand.

“This is a timely encouragement for the industry. The solidarity shown by the governments is highly appreciated,” Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) Chairman Priantha Fernando told the Daily FT.

He hoped this will enable the tour operators in those countries to promote Sri Lanka once again among its citizens visiting Sri Lanka in the upcoming winter season.
