“Welcome everyone to the inaugural meeting of the Jaffna University Alumni Association, Canada. Compared to many universities in North America or in Europe, university of Jaffna is relatively new. It was established in August 1974. However it is one of the member institutions of the Commonwealth University Association like the University of Toronto or University of Calgary.”

Jaffna university degrees are recognized all over the world. In Canada our university degrees are equivalent to a four year degree from a Canadian university.

Many graduates from the University of Jaffna are employed and hold relatively good positions. Even professional medical graduates of Jaffna University are increasingly employed in Canada and in U.S.A.

It is high time the Jaffna University Community of graduates and past academic staff to come forward unitedly to promote and support excellence in our university. There have been Jaffna university student’s get-togethers, batch parties, Christmas dinners and entertainment for families. But there was no organized association with a firm commitment to contribute positively towards the promotion of excellence in higher studies and research at the University of Jaffna.

Let us sincerely pay our gratitude to the university that had given many of us a good education and paved the way for a brighter future in our adopted country, Canada. Let us work towards this goal through JUAA, Canada.”
